Do you know a deserving young woman? Tell her about the Ellen Peterson Award for Social Justice and Environmental Advocacy. We've extended the submission deadline until April 17.

This is the sixth year our chapter will recognize young women for their efforts on behalf of social justice and the environment. Named for feminist and long-time environmentalist, Ellen Peterson, the award honors graduating public high school students who demonstrate leadership in their school or community and show a commitment to social justice. There will be three awards given in 2026: $1,500 for the award winner and $750 each for two runners-up.

Eligibility Requirements and Procedures:

Applicant must be a Lee County public high school graduating senior who identifies as female.
Applicant must be accepted to a college or technical program and enroll by fall, 2026.
Applicant must complete the online award application form, including names and contact information for two personal or professional references that the Awards Committee may contact.

Applicant must submit a completed application form electronically by April 17, 2026
Awards will be announced on or before May 7, 2026. Checks will be given directly to the recipients upon receipt of enrollment verification.
The award recipients will be selected by the Lee County NOW Awards Committee.
